Kingston Grammar School

Description

Kingston Grammar School is a leading day school for boys and girls aged 11-18 in South West London. Founded in 1561, it is one of the most successful co-educational schools in the country, and has a long tradition of developing individual talent and encouraging high aspirations. Students are bright and enthusiastic; their joy in life and spirit of curiosity makes education here a real pleasure. Our academic standards are high: in 2019, 65.6% of our A Level students achieved A*/A at A Level, 75% of students were offered a place at their first choice university and 80% of students were offered a place at a Russell Group Universities. On average, 10% of our cohort attain Oxbridge places whilst a higher proportion go on to study for medical degrees across the UK. The School has a strong sporting legacy which includes 26 appearances at the Olympic Games and alumni such as Olympic gold medallists James Cracknell OBE and Sophie Hosking MBE.We believe that education should be holistic - strong both academically and pastorally - and should produce happy and engaged students who will make a positive difference to the world around them now and in the future. Students are encouraged to support each other throughout their time at KGS, either in the academic, pastoral or co-curricular sphere. We are rightly proud of our pastoral provision and it is widely acknowledged to be one of the best in any school in the UK. “Without exception, those spoken to feel that this is a kind school where unkindness is never acceptable.” ISI Inspection Report (2017) We welcome applications from the parents of prospective students applying for 11+, 13+ and 16+ entry who cannot afford the fees in full or in part. Fee assistance is means tested with up to 100% of full fees available. Scholarships are currently available for Academic, Art, Music, Sport, Drama (16+ only) and Design Technology (16+ only). The award of a scholarship is not dependent upon parental income, and may be augmented by means tested fee assistance. The main points of entry are at 11+ and 16+, with occasional places available at 13+. Admission is by selection on academic merit. For all entries there is an assessment and interview. For 16+ entry, predicted GCSE grades (or international equivalent) are also considered.
