Description
KIS is a school that values its Western tradition in education, and to this, the school has established a challenging and well-rounded academic curriculum, where the arts, student activities and athletics are also highly valued. The students are nurtured to acquire ‘habits of mind’ such as problem solving, decision-making, critical and creative thinking skills as well as to gain academic success. Our Literacy Program has evolved and with the implementation of Guided Reading and 6+1 Traits of Writing, the students receive a rigorous, differentiated learning experience. KIS Elementary has an active PTO adding to the school experience for the students. House Teams and our Phoenix and Points Programs bring kids together in learning and foster such ideas as collaboration, cooperation, citizenship, respect and caring. Our Assemblies, Intramurals and Special Events Days showcase student talent and bring out the best in our student body. There is so much going on at KIS Elementary and we all play a part in the happenings. At KIS Seoul, we pride ourselves in our ability to deliver high-quality education in a small campus setting. With low student-teacher ratios, the campus is ideally suited to give all learners that special care and attention they require in their formative years. With a developing after school child care option for families, Seoul has stepped up to address the unique needs of its urban clientele. Clubs and activities are a major focus of the campus and are on the go each and every week. The Literacy Support Center has allowed for a more diverse student body and we are committed to ensuring that all learners accepted at Seoul are given the resources necessary to succeed. This is a pledge we make to our parents, who are our partners in education.Learning at KIS is a shared responsibility, then, between the students, teachers, parents and administration, with each playing a separate, yet integrated and vital role in the educational development of each child. For students, learning is not limited to the school, as the skills, attitudes and processes, they begin to foster in the elementary school, and those acquired at home, are furthered in the middle school years, all culminating in high school graduation. This progression establishes the solid foundation upon which students build their post secondary experience, yet also affords them the skills and attitudes in their own lives to become truly independent world citizens of the technologically-driven 21st century.
