Thank you for considering Kimball Union Academy.
Description
There is no doubt that Kimball Union has come a long way from its beginnings in 1813. But one thing has not changed; we still offer the best in contemporary education. From a predominantly locally based student body to a school with no international constraints, from forty years as a single-sex institution to a return to coeducation in the mid-seventies, from seven students to three hundred and forty, we have grown and flourished over two hundred years of history. Grounded by our mission, Kimball Union Academy has the experience of centuries.

Use of technology in the classroom
Today, technology provides a launching point for innovative instruction and a transformative educational experience. At KUA this begins with SMART Boards in every classroom, the KUA Laptop Requirement (see below) to ensure that every student is equipped with the appropriate device and support for their academic computing needs, and the adoption of digital textbooks across a number of our course offerings, which allows us to further embrace digital content and enhancements in and out of the classroom. Utilizing cutting-edge technology gives faculty and students the freedom to be creative and move beyond the traditional walls and constraints of "old school" education. We strive to make our classrooms more interactive and empower students to play an active role in their education. We see the impact of this every day—whether it's guiding students as they use Twitter to follow up-to-the-minute, first-person accounts of a revolution unfolding half a world away, or watching them win the Massachusetts FIRST Tech Challenge Championships as part of our STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) Program. Kimball Union Academy's classrooms are all equipped with SMART Boards and outstanding audio/visual capabilities. These technologies are integrated into the curriculum in a variety of ways to emphasize 21st Century skills and learning outcomes. Whether through collaborative problem-solving, global interconnectivity, access to databases, or refining information literacy, our objective is to advance learning with these technological tools.
Learning Support
tructured Support Programs Our structured support programs are individualized to help our students where they need it most: Executive functioning skills support (including organization, self-advocacy, time management, and test-taking strategies) Direct content instruction in academic disciplines The nurturing of self-confidence and resilience Explore Learning Center courses and details Other Support Services The KUA Writing Center is available for all students who seek help with any stage of the writing process: brainstorming, organization, development, sentence structure, and revision. Peer writing tutors (typically Junior or Senior Students enrolled in Advanced Placement English) staff the Writing Center. Peer Tutors are available in most subject areas to provide additional support. Peer tutors are students enrolled in advanced level courses, who demonstrate an interest in the subject and a passion helping others navigate our curriculum. Office Hours are an ideal time for students to gain one-on-one or small group support from their classroom teachers. Available two times per week, office hours encourage self-advocacy and independence in developing learners.

Living Accommodations
KUA utilizes a mixed-housing model. Students of all ages are represented in every dorm. This fosters the development of big-sister, big-brother types of relationships and gives every student the chance to thrive in the nurturing environment of multi-aged supporters. Whether students live in a dorm of five or a dorm of 45, they all have dedicated faculty members living with them to look to for answers, advice, and connections. Dorm families eat together, study together, tackle problems together, and find space away from each other when necessary, just like a family.
