International Learning Group

ILG School is an IB Candidate School and NGO institution founded and run by parents and teachers with a focus on the development of an independent and happy child, ensuring that all our students ‘love to learn’. We have also engaged in a comprehensive process of review of the service we offer to not only our international body of students (85% of students) but also our local student body that continues to grow within our community. We are proud of the results we achieve with our English language learners through our English Language Acquisition program and recognize that we also need to support our local students to obtain competencies in their native Albanian language. We have incorporated Albanian Language and Literature for native speakers into our curriculum. French continues to be the second language in the Elementary School while in Secondary they can choose between French and German. After-school activities offer further opportunities to join other language classes.

Homework

ILG School community understands that the completion of assignments outside of the school day are opportunities for “home learning,” rather than “homework”. Therefore, teachers and parents/caregivers collaborate to ensure knowledge and skills are introduced and reinforced in both the school and at home, in order to develop an appreciation of learning throughout life. Parents and caregivers acknowledge that home learning supports and reinforces ideas, content, concepts, and skills introduced at school. Teachers acknowledge that families are the first and primary teachers of students and that collaboration with parents and caregivers is essential to student success during the school year and beyond.

Schools Facilities

Within the three-building campus, we have two libraries, two gyms, two cafeterias, a music room, an art room, a science laboratory, a multimedia/design room, a Lego room, an outside sports area, and a playground. ILG School possesses a wonderful playground where children are able to enjoy nature and outdoor activities such as gardening. LG School has an extensive collection of books housed in two libraries. The Lower School Building Library has board books for our youngest readers, many picture books, and some short chapter books for our early readers. The students have plenty of room to spread out on the carpets and look at or read books of their choice. It is also a perfect place to get comfortable and listen to a story being read aloud. The Upper School Building Library features some picture books, many chapter books, and young adult novels. These books are sorted by genre so that readers can easily find their favorites as well as discover books from different genres. The bright, sunny library is an inviting space to explore and find a book that is just right for each reader. The school environment is clean and safe and each classroom is equipped with air purifier/filter for hazy days.

Bus Service

ILG School has selected Medita Travel Company to provide transport for the ILG students. The service is door to door. You can choose the service both ways, morning and afternoons, or one way only. The buses have 12-15 seats; each student would have one seat with proper seat belts. Parents/Guardians can put or provide their own additional “baby safety seat” if desired. Each bus has one chaperone, which makes sure that every student has his seat belt on and assists students with getting on and off the bus. All drivers and chaperones for ILG School have up-to-date First Aid and CPR training as a part of our extensive ILG safety measures.

School Lunch

ILG School has contracted FRESA to operate the cafeteria who will serve warm nutritious daily lunches to our students. FRESA has the responsibility of preparing and serving healthy, fresh food in the school cafeteria for our students and periodically organizing child-friendly activities related to food, healthy eating, and preparation, as well as lessons by the nutritionist about health benefits of balanced food. Bi-annual surveys are given to students, parents, and teachers to ensure that our vendor is providing quality, healthy meals. Students are also welcome to bring their own lunches. Morning snacks are provided free of charge by the school.

ELL

Our Educational Support Services (ESS) is an integral part of the International Learning Group (ILG) School education program. The ESS team currently comprises the School Counsellor/Special Educational Needs Coordinator (SENCO), Literacy Coach, Specialist Math Teacher, and English Language Acquisition (ELA) teachers.
