Introduction

Craighouse School a bilingual, co-educational school with Chilean and British traditions founded in 1959 by Charles T. Darling and Joan Darling (neé Joan Gibson Craig-Carmichael). We warmly welcome families, value open mindedness, appreciate cultural and religious diversity and promote teamwork in the classroom, on the sports field and in the world beyond school.

We act at all times with respect, consideration and clearly defined limits for the benefit of the individual and the community.

Our family oriented Educational Project fully integrates the academic and formative areas, so that each pupil reaches their full potential as a person.

Craighouse School is a private, co-educational, bilingual school (Spanish – English) that comprises Pre-School, Primary and Secondary levels. As part of the Chilean Educational System has been recognised by the Ministry of Education of Chile as cooperative 1961.

As from 2008, Craighouse School is a Full IB Continuum School (www.ibo.org). Craighouse is a founding member of the Association of British Schools in Chile – ABSCH (www.absch.cl), a founding and active member of the Latin American Heads Conference – LAHC (www.lahc.net) and a full member of Round Square - (www.roundsquare.com).

Our focus is the comprehensive development of our pupils, who throughout their school life will strive to achieve the highest academic and formative standards, according to the potential of each of individual

Our goal is the formation of people who are inquirers, knowledgeable, thinkers, communicators, principled, open-minded, caring, good friends, risk takers, balanced, reflective, resilient and informed about physical well-being.

Craighouse School pupils play a very important role in their learning process, and their responsibility increases as they reach higher levels of independence and autonomy. We aspire not only for our pupils to be actively involved in their own learning and development, but also to become agents in the creation of a better world.

Respectful of Diversity

We believe a person’s view of reality is enriched by interacting with a multiplicity of different perspectives. The interaction between the different cultures, languages and religions represented in the school provides many opportunities for pupils to enrich their understanding of themselves and to strengthen their awareness of others, fostering in them a flexible outlook and open-mindedness.

Caring: concerned for others and our surroundings

We act with respect, consideration and clearly defined limits for the benefit of the individual and the community. We are also committed to maintaining an atmosphere of support and concern in issues that deal with learning and our pupils’ general well-being.

Family-oriented

We believe in the formative role of the family and the positive influence it exerts on our community and society. We believe that a child’s personal and educational development is a joint challenge, in which both parents and school must work in close coordination and in a spirit of mutual respect.

In 2005, Craighouse School declared in its Educational Project that we accept all members of a family. Consequently, we developed an Integration Programme for the children of those families within our community who have special needs.

As a school we respect and value differences and seek to offer each of our pupils’ significant learning opportunities and possibilities for their development as individuals. In the future, each pupil may thereby contribute to their local and global society.
