Financial Aid
Avenues seeks to build a student body that reflects the diversity of each community it serves. As our mission states, we aim to be, “humble about [our] gifts and generous of spirit.” In addition to the work done by our students, staff and parents through Avenues community engagement initiatives, our financial assistance program is one more manifestation of that commitment. For the 2021-22 school year, Avenues provided nearly $15 million in aid to families who qualified for financial aid.
At Avenues New York, financial aid is typically available for students in kindergarten through 12th grade. We encourage you to consider Avenues even if you cannot afford the full cost of tuition, as financial aid may be available. Our team is committed to helping you navigate this process.
The primary responsibility for tuition rests with the family, and each family is expected to fully utilize its own resources before requesting financial aid. Avenues recognizes the uniqueness of each situation and tailors aid packages to meet the demonstrated needs of each qualified family.

Use of technology in the classroom
The Avenues technology program was built from the bottom up, starting with two Apple Distinguished Educators, innovators from an Apple Exemplary Program school and years of experience in successful technology integration from a number of top schools.
Students in the Early Learning Center enjoy age-appropriate activities on iPads, and Early Learning Center faculty have access to hands-on classroom technology to support their curriculum. Lower Division students have classroom access to both iPads and MacBook Airs as part of their learning experience. Finally, both Upper Division students are part of our leading 1 + 1 MacBook Air/iPad initiative. Technology integrators support classroom teachers and students in all grade levels. The entire campus is a showcase for student creative work and supports platforms for collaboration. Students have the ability to showcase their multimedia projects or e-portfolios via interactive displays and even on our multimedia video wall.
We are delighted and honored to announce that Avenues is an Apple Distinguished School. The Apple Distinguished School designation is reserved for programs that meet criteria for innovation, leadership and educational excellence, as well as demonstrating a clear vision of exemplary learning environments.
Also, all faculty and key staff members are trained in how to utilize technology as a transformative tool in a challenged-based learning environment.
An infrastructure with a robust wireless network and bandwidth supports all our cloud-hosted systems. Teachers and students have access to classroom technology that includes wireless access to interactive SMART projectors, wireless screen sharing, IP cameras and unique academic tools that allow classes to collaborate not only in the classroom but beyond the classroom walls.

School Lunch
Food is at the heart of culture and as one school with many campuses, we aim for students to be familiar with and excited about a wide variety of international culinary traditions. Our program challenges students to broaden their palettes and develop a lifelong appreciation for a wide range of foods. We take healthy eating habits seriously, offering nutrient-rich, whole food menu choices that are low in added sugars, salt, fat and preservatives. We also aim to minimize ecological impact, choosing local, seasonal and organic options where feasible.
Supervised Care
Many of the world’s greatest scientists, artists, athletes, and mathematicians got their starts early, following their curiosity and passion beyond the formal school day. Inspired by the lives of these change-makers, we’ve curated a selection of after-school learning experiences for your young athletes, artists, performers, makers, and global citizens. The range of classes engages students to explore their curiosity, excel in their passions, and just plain have fun.

Sports Teams
Whether through Wellness and Movement, our signature health and physical education program, or competitive team sports, Avenues students are supported to pursue excellence and develop the habits that lead to lifelong mental and physical health.
Wellness and Movement (WAM)
The program for nursery and pre-K uses dance and movement as a tool for physical and creative development. Classes focus on movement exploration, observation, self-awareness and expression while utilizing a joyful combination of dance choreography, drama, music, storytelling and improvisation. Kindergarten classes expand on this, progressing into the introduction of sports such as basketball, soccer and volleyball.
Spanning grades 1–10, Avenues Wellness and Movement (WAM) is a unique health and physical education experience rooted in positive psychology and dynamic play. WAM focuses on social-emotional wellbeing and physical literacy through a comprehensive movement-based curriculum.
Students in grades 9–10 also take elective classes at leading neighborhood fitness boutiques including Soul Cycle and Row House.
Athletics
The Avenues athletics program provides opportunities for students to participate in athletic activities, have fun, experience the benefits of being physically active and enjoy being on a team or in a program. We welcome all types of student athletes: those excited to be starting out in their sport; those who want to be part of a team; and those who wish to take their athletic abilities to a higher level and master their sport.
Our Ethos: Beyond the court or pitch, athletics at Avenues develops important life skills and qualities like time management, leadership, goal-setting, commitment and dedication. The department is guided by the school’s values of Welcome, Safety and Respect, as well as our own four core values: character, commitment, culture and connection. Our staff strive to help student athletes reach their maximum potential, and then to be humble in victory and steadfast in defeat.
