The Bement School

Thank you for considering The Bement School.

Description

Bement is an oasis—a small, kindergarten through grade 9 school nestled below the Pocumtuck Range and flanked by the sparkling Deerfield River. We're a kind community that values happiness and hard work, and we teach our students to embrace challenges. We want our students to feel excited and fulfilled every day, whether they are kindergartners chasing butterflies or ninth graders conducting science experiments. We prepare our young people for the next phase of life—from first learning to read to writing a standout essay for entry into competitive secondary schools.

Living Accommodations

We want our students to feel ownership over their living space, where they're free to make cakes from scratch in the full kitchens, study on the couches, and play with dorm parents' children and pets. Just as they would at home, students help care for their dorms with daily and weekly chores. Each weekend, we strike a balance between relaxing, studying, and exploring our location in small-group outings, like biking, hiking, visiting a museum, attending a concert, dining out, skiing, or taking a day-trip to Boston. Day students often join these excursions or invite boarding students to their local homes, which establishes a caring community among all students at Bement.

Schools Facilities

We enjoy our expansive green space for games outside, and we have a partnership with Deerfield Academy to use their state-of-the-art facilities, including their swimming pool, ice rink, and track. From learning to swim to sledding to competing against a rival, our students stretch their bodies and minds. Our goal is to impart strong leadership skills, good sportsmanship, and the ability to win or lose with grit and grace.
