American International School of Jeddah

Thank you for considering American International School of Jeddah.

Description

The American International School of Jeddah is a non-profit school that offers an authentic American education, designed to nurture students' passion for knowledge. Formerly known as Parents Cooperative School (PCS), the school was founded in 1952 by a group of expatriate parents who saw a need for a formal American curriculum education in Jeddah. It later went on to be renamed North Campus School (NCS) in 1976, Saudi Arabian International School (Saudia – SAIS) in 1985, and finally American International School of Jeddah (AISJ) in 2004. After much transition, one thing has remained the same: Our belief in and commitment to providing the best learning experience possible for each of our students. We believe in the development of the Whole Child and are committed to addressing the physical, psychological, social, emotional, and academic needs of each student. Acting as facilitators, we work hard to inspire each student to achieve their potential and pursue their dreams. We are proud to be where we are today and are excited to see what the next 60 years have in store for us.

Learning Support

www.aisj.edu.sa/learning/learning-support The American International School of Jeddah believes in inclusion. We aim to create an educational model that offers every student the opportunity to succeed. We accept students with learning differences and mild to moderate learning disabilities, as long as we are confident in our ability to meet their needs. Students who have intensive learning differences and/or disabilities may be placed in specialized learning environments (Special Day Classes) with modified learning schedules and curricula in order to meet their needs, as determined by the AISJ Administration. The purpose of such placement is to ensure that the most appropriate resources can be focused on providing the best possible learning environment for the student. A personal learning coach may be required for continuing enrollment of the student, at parent expense, as determined by the AISJ Administration. At AISJ we take a collaborative approach to meeting the needs of our Learning Support students. Our classroom teachers work alongside our Learning Support teachers, teaching assistants, specialist teachers, speech and language pathologists, and counselors. These professionals, together with parents, ensure that we are providing high-quality education and our students have the support they need. Learning Support teachers are highly-qualified in their respective fields and strive to maintain an effective program that is informed by current best practice. Students accepted into the Learning Support program will have their needs addressed and documented in an Individual Learning Plan (ILP), which describes the students' abilities, needs, strengths, weaknesses, and individualized goals, in detail. Small group instructional environments may be provided to ensure optimal learning for all students. Our program provides a range of services. Instruction from Learning Support Services is differentiated and flexible to provide support inside the classroom and limited small-group or one-to-one instruction apart from the class. The goal is to help these students access the grade-level curriculum and successfully grow as learners by optimizing and facilitating opportunities for learning. Parents of students with identified learning needs are invited to submit an application form and any relevant assessment reports or evaluations that clarify their child's educational needs. Learning support plans (such as ILPs, 504s, Psych Ed. Assessments, discipline records, etc.) from the previous school must also be included. AISJ uses all available information to decide whether our current Learning Support program can accommodate the needs of the student. KINDLY BE AWARE THAT THE AISJ LEARNING SUPPORT PROGRAM IS CURRENTLY FULL FOR THE 2020-21 ACADEMIC YEAR FOR ALL GRADE LEVELS.

Uniform

www.aisj.edu.sa/community/uniform-information There are many benefits to wearing school uniforms. They allow students to focus on learning rather than competition and help create a sense of belonging and pride. It also helps parents in their decisions for purchasing school clothing and takes in consideration of our host culture. All AISJ students are required to wear the school uniform every day, except for themed Casual Days (Superhero Day, International Peace Day, Friendship Day). Daily school uniforms and Physical Education uniforms can be purchased from the AISJ Uniform Shop throughout the year.
